Duplex Facts
There are different styles of duplexes throughout the city of Los
Angeles, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood and Hancock Park Adjacent areas.
The styles include: the majestic Spanish Revival, English Tudor, French
Normandy and Mediterranean. The most admired is the two-story, stucco
and red tiled roof-upstairs, downstairs unit. However, they were also
built as one-story, side by side units and side by side townhouse style.
I also consider two homes on a lot as a duplex.

These structures were built to resemble single family homes in the
1920's and 1930's to accommodate the growing population in Los Angeles.
They have the look and feel of a single family and were made to blend in
the neighborhood. People that could not afford a single family home
found these apartment houses the next best thing. In the past five
years, as the market price of a single family home continues to
escalate, there has been a resurgence in the duplex market.
